Wednesdays at the Word

Wednesday at the Word

‘Wednesday at the Word’ is one of the programs we offer at Church of the Word in Gainesville. It is a mid week program with something for everyone in the family. It has four essential elements.

A simple but home cooked meal offered from 6:00pm until 6:45pm. The cost is only $1 per person, but you must sign up ahead of time! You can do this by calling the office at 703-754-9673 or e-mail Pastor Robin. Usually about 40+ people sigh up for this and about as many again join us later for the programs.

Three programs run from 6:45 – 8:15pm

  1. AWANA for children age 4 to 12. Cynthia DuBusc children@churchoftheword.net heads up this ministry.
  2. Youth group for teenagers including both Junior and senior high groups. Liz McCaslin youth@churchoftheword.net heads up this ministry.
  3. Adult Forum led by Pastor Robin pastor@churchoftheword.net. The format varies but always encourages debate and sharing. Sometimes it is an interactive bible study, sometimes we hear about a local or foreign ministry from a guest speaker.

If you can’t make the meal at 6pm do please come along later to one of the other events, no need to register ahead of time. In case of inclement weather please call the church ahead of time or check with one of the leaders.

For the next four weeks starting 1/12 we will be using Canon Mark Pearson’s book ‘The basics of the Faith’ published by Latimer Press as a springboard for our discussions. Mark is director of the Institute for Christian Renewal in New Hampshire and has visited CW/G a number of times. He is also author of the popular book, ‘A comprehensive guide to Christian Healing’. A book we use to train our healing prayer teams.

1/12     Chapters 1 and 2 – What is the Gospel and the Trinity

1/19     Chapters 3 and 4 – The uniqueness of Jesus and the Holy Spirit

1/26     Chapters 5 thru 7 – Bible reading, Prayer and knowing Gods will

2/2       Chapters 8 and 9 – the Church and Eucharist

2/9       Chapter 10          – evangelism telling the story and our story

Because we are getting ready for a visit from Bishop David Bena on February 20th next we are offering these classes so that people can prepare for Baptism, confirmation or being received into the Anglican Church. If you wish to join our church in one of these ways you should get a copy of The basics of the Faith, start reading it, and come along to the class.

Following this study and moving into lent we will take a look at some of the great historic figures in Church history. Glen Grady will teach us about Luther, Tyndale and Cranmer on 2/16, 2/23 and 3/2.
